The bread-and-butter job: annual or twice-yearly cuts on hedges that are already at a good height. Done right, this is what keeps a hedge looking like it belongs to the house.
Most routine cuts in Chatham fall in the £120 – £400 range depending on hedge length, height, and how much access we need. We give a fixed price after seeing photos and the postcode, no surprises on the day, no charge if the quote isn't accepted.
The right window depends on the species and, on the Chatham Maritime and Dockyard side of town, on wind exposure off the estuary.
Dormant season. The right window for any hard structural work on deciduous hedges, before the nesting closure starts.
Nesting season begins 1 March. Light routine trims on fast growers (privet, leylandii) can continue if a visual nest check clears the hedge first; heavier work waits.

Nesting closure ends 1 September. This is the main season: yew, beech and hornbeam want their single annual cut here, and estuary-exposed conifers get their second trim of the year before the plant hardens off for winter.
Tidy-up season and, once leaves are down, a second window for structural work on deciduous hedges. Book by mid-September for an October slot, this is our busiest month.
If a hedge needs more than a routine cut, it's overgrown, gappy, leaning, or has outgrown the position, that's a reduction job, not a trim. We'll tell you that at quote stage rather than do a botched cut and pretend it solved the problem.
