Hedge Care and Tree Work Across the Medway Towns.

Hedge cutting, reduction and tree services: pruning, crown reduction, deadwooding. Across Chatham, the Historic Dockyard fringe, Gillingham and Rochester. Fully insured. We plan around the bird-nesting window (1 March – 31 August). Six-week conservation-area notice handled for you.

What we do

Hedge care and tree work. No upselling.

Specified for the Medway estuary's mix of heavy clay and chalk, the salt-laden wind off the river, and the conservation-area rules that cover the Historic Dockyard fringe and central Rochester. Hedge cutting and reduction for the boundary; pruning, crown reduction and deadwooding for the trees behind it.

Routine hedge trimming

Annual or twice-yearly cuts on privet, leylandii, beech, holly and laurel. Clean lines, arisings cleared, no power tools after 6pm.

Height & width reduction

Bringing overgrown hedges back into proportion, including the leylandii screens common across Walderslade and Weeds Wood. Staged where the species needs it.

How we reduce safely

Conifer & leylandii

Fast-growing conifer hedges are the Medway towns' single biggest boundary complaint. Sized, shaped and kept from wrecking the light next door.

Conifer & leylandii work

Tree services

Pruning, crown reduction and deadwooding on the mature trees behind the hedge. Conservation-area notice handled where the tree is protected.

Why local matters

Chatham hedges aren't generic hedges.

Much of Chatham sits on heavy Thames-Medway estuarine clay, which holds water through winter and bakes hard in a dry summer. Ground closer to the river and Chatham Maritime carries salt-laden wind off the estuary, which browns the seaward face of exposed conifers faster than an inland garden. Up on Walderslade and Chatham Hill the ground rises onto chalk-influenced North Downs soil, a different growing pattern again.

We work to that variation, not against it. Salt-tolerant species and staged reductions near the water. Standard privet and leylandii management on the estate roads. A tape measure on any stem near the 75mm conservation-area threshold before we touch it.

In a conservation area?

We handle the paperwork.

Parts of Chatham, including the fringe around the Historic Dockyard, and much of neighbouring Rochester sit inside a Medway Council conservation area. That means any tree with a stem over 75mm at chest height needs six weeks' written notice before pruning. We file the section-211 notice on your behalf, included in every quote.
